WE LIKE OUR COFFEE WITH MINIMAL CREAM

We don't know if these babes are from Florida, but they're on a beach and
they rock and roll.

We were doing some heavy reading yesterday on the Internets and came across someone claiming that there are just not really any good bands coming from Florida right now or recently at all. We usually read what these peoples have to say [Is that racist? We don't mean for that to be racist. It's just hard to phrase and so sometimes you have to say "these people", ya' know? It's not racist.] and granted, the band they mentioned from Florida totally sucks, but we were just taken back by this claim. Mostly because (1) there are a ton of great bands in Florida right now and (2) there's a distinctly great swamp sound that seems to only reel through Florida bands. And to deny recognition or acknowledgment to either of those just breaks our little hearts. So, to prove them wrong, here are some Florida bands that rule [off the tops of our heads]:

JACUZZI BOYS:
We've talked about these guys a ton, and we don't even care if you are tired of us talking about them. They rule and their new LP No Seasons on Florida's Dying [A kickass FLORIDA label] is supposed to come out this October. They're also playing that little Garage Fest in Portland that we talked about. From Miami, FL.

ELECTRIC BUNNIES:
The Bunnies babes have been around for a while in the Miami area and have put out a handful of solid 7"s over the last 2 years. One of which is a split with Pink Reason [not from Florida]. They make poppy peach jams with a nonchalant, lackadaisical hint to them. In other words, it's things you want to listen to. There's definitely a running theme to their artwork, featuring cartoon-y rounded head girls. Like the artwork for the album Through the Magical Door coming out this year on Florida's Dying.

TEE PEE:
These dudes rule, but we're a little fuzzy on them. We've seen footage of Tee Pee as a one man band with drum machines and other times as a full-on three piece. Whatever. It just adds to the mysterioum of the band and their ghostly sound. They've put out primarily cassettes [Jerkwave Tapes] which you won't be able to easily find, but their slated to release a 7" with HoZac soon and an LP on Senzei that should be more attainable. The boys in Tee Pee are involved with a bunch of other bands [Melted Sunglasses, Electric Bunnies, Brian'd Dirty Business, Lambda Chi, Free Improvisation, etc.] so check those out, too.

LIL DAGGERS:
These guys are even coming to Nashville soon, come on guys, keep your eyes open! They're playing Little Hamilton on Oct. 1 with Satan's Youth Ministers and The Humms. Again, very chuggy fun garage rock. Want some more? Ok, we've got some more.

SHIT EAGLE:
1. Look at that name. Who can look at that name and say there are no good bands coming from Florida?? 2. Listen to them. Who can listen to this band and say there are no good bands coming from Florida?? They've put out a few 7"s over the last while with Terminal Boredom, Razorcake, and Dusted, and our little earbuds are salivating at the thought of a full-length coming out soon.

SLIPPERY SLOPES:
Still not convinced? Slippery Slopes should do the trick. If you're a Ty Segall kinda girl, then you'd probably really dig these bad boys. There a little more punk, though, which is fine by us.

OK, we're running out of energy because all this linking is making us thirsty. These pretzels are making me thirsty! But here are some other Florida babes that we truly dig:

MELTED SUNGLASSES
GHOST HOSPITAL
MAGIC AND THE JOHNSONS
OZZY & THE BOBOS
HOT HANDS

Oh! And don't even try and convince us that there's not a good noise/electronic scene in Florida! We know a bunch of the Tampa babes have recently relocated to our fair city, but Florida blood runs thick. Just check out what's going on over at SAFG with bands like DEEYAY, m(L)u, and Craow.

And the Florida babes really have their shit together. There's a really rad blag-a-blag that we like to read called Amateur Depression that chronicles most good things in Florida regarding bands like Tee Pee and the aforementioned million other bands. And Miami, Florida is also host to one of our fave festies, So Raw Festival.

HAVE WE MADE OUR POINT YET!? NASHVILLE'S DEAD LOVES FLORIDA! AND WE PROBABLY LOVE YOUR STATE/CITY/TOWNSHIP/SHANTY TOWN/SQUAT, TOO! THERE IS COOL SHIT EVERYWHERE AND WE'RE STOKED ON IT!

TeePee is just one guy called Eric, and he's self-releasing an LP by the end of Winter, you can e-mail him about it. He has a wide range of people backing him up. He's in Electric Bunnies, BDBIZ, and Melted Sunglasses, just like all those other Miami boys. They're very incestuous.

Woven Bones also started in Florida (Orlando).
